Steve Vai At Toad's Place

Mike Keneally, Steve, Dave Weiner

Man, when three great players are just wailing away in harmony it is really incredible.

About Dave Weiner:

(This text was written by Jane and Meyer Weiner, Dave's parents. Thank you very much.)

David Jason Weiner of Wyomissing, PA is 23 years old, graduate of Musicians Institute - GIT *Guitar Institute of Technology. Graduate of Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA. BS in accounting. While a student at SU, Dave spent a semester at the University of London, England where he studied International Finance. While he was a student at MIT, Dave worked as an intern for Ruta Sepety where he was introduced to Steve Vai.

Dave has been playing guitar since he was 8 years old, even at such a young age, you could tell he had a passion for his music and played very well. Our family vacationed in California when Dave was 15 years old. He asked if we could tour the Musicians Institute. Of course we expected to show our son that the school was probably a scam preying on wanna-be musicians. (What kind of educational institution advertises in Guitar Magazine, etc.!?) However, to our surprise we discovered that MIT was very high-tech, had a no-nonsense attitude and was an extremely professional school. We made a deal with Dave, go to college and get a BS of his choice and then we would pay for two years at MIT in LA.

David has always been a huge fan of Steve Vai, buying his CDs and videos and watching, pausing and playing, etc. He always thought Steve was the best technical guitarist, so of course, Dave would try to glean Steve's style. I have been dusting a framed poster of Steve Vai hanging in Dave's room for the last 13 years.

Only two years ago, David went to see Steve's show in Philadelphia. Dave took his girlfriend with him, standing in line hours before the doors opened, just to be able to stand at the stage at showtime. When I asked "How was the concert?" Dave's reply was "awesome!", followed by; "these world famous musicians were so nice to me, they signed autographs, Steve signed my guitar and talked to me like he was really interested in my opinions." And now, Dave is performing with Steve, Mike Keneally, Mike Mangini and Philip; signing guitars and autographs. Unbelieveable!!!!
